2005 George Sirian Meritorious Service Award

On Friday, August 26, 2005, the George Sirian Meritorious Service Award was presented to Quartermaster Senior Chief (Surface Warfare) Christopher Newland by the USS Constitution Chapter of the Surface Navy Association (SNA) aboard the historic frigate during its annual turnaround cruise in Boston Harbor.

Newland, a Vancouver WA native, is currently assigned to the San Diego-based guided missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53).

The fleet-wide award is given each year in George Sirian's honor to a Chief Petty Officer (CPO) in the Navy who exemplifies Surface Warfare excellence.

The family was represented again this year by George T. "Tom" Forbes, Capt. USN Retired, a great-great-grandson of George Sirian.  More information about the award is available at:
